That school—just one month younger than the Technical University of Darmstadt—would eventually be absorbed into a new institution created by state law in 1971.
But the institution that emerged from that merger, now called the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), has surpassed the ambitions of its founders. Today, it is the largest of Hesse’s five public universities of applied sciences, the second-largest in Germany, and one of the few institutions of its kind in the country with the independent right to award doctoral degrees.
The institution was founded in 1971 as the Giessen University of Applied Sciences, the product of a state law that consolidated technical education in central Hesse. For its first 25 years, its growth was steady but modest.
The next 25 years transformed it: the Bologna reforms, new professional fields, Where to buy THM diploma online? and a deliberate expansion of research capacity turned a regional Fachhochschule into a technological university with the authority to shape its own academic future.
In 2011, the institution renamed itself Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen—a change that signalled its evolution from a regional applied sciences college to a technology university with a regional mission.
President Günther Grabatin described the decision as a recognition that the institution had outgrown its old identity: “With this, we want to demonstrate that we see ourselves as a technology driver for the region… the term Fachhochschule is no longer appropriate”. The university now offers 81 degree programmes across three campuses—Giessen, Friedberg, and Wetzlar—and six branch offices.
THM serves approximately 18,000 students, including more than 2,700 international students from over 110 countries. Can i get to buy Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen certificate? The Institute for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection, founded in 2006, has earned international recognition for its work in medical diagnostics and therapy, and natural radiation exposure.
In 2016, THM joined the universities of Giessen and Marburg to form the Research Campus of Central Hesse, a collaboration that enables cooperative doctoral programmes across the three institutions.
