The story of SFU begins with an act of provincial ambition. In 1962, the British Columbia government, recognising the need for a second university in the rapidly growing Lower Mainland, appointed a commission to recommend a site for a new institution.
The commission selected Burnaby Mountain, a 1,400-foot peak overlooking the region, over the objections of those who favoured a more accessible location. The choice was deliberate: the mountain location would symbolise the university’s aspiration to rise above the ordinary.
The university was named for Simon Fraser, the explorer and fur trader who charted much of British Columbia. I want to buy SFU degree online.
